Why You Should Clean The Carpet Before Baby Arrives

You’ve been preparing for the arrival of your new bundle of joy by getting the house in order. The nursery is ready, you’ve baby-proofed the cabinets and drawers, and you may have even prepared any siblings with the news of their new brother or sister.

But there’s one thing you may have forgotten to do and that’s clean your carpet. It’s perfectly understandable, on your list of baby preparations, the carpet can be pretty low on the list. However, it shouldn’t be. That’s because a dirty carpet can be detrimental to the health and well-being of your new infant.

So why should you clean the carpet before your baby gets home? You may be surprised you didn’t think of it immediately.

Germs and Bacteria

Your carpet can become a breeding ground for all kinds of awful contaminants that you don’t want anywhere near your newborn. Think about it, if someone asked you if it was okay to place your delicate infant onto a material that was riddled with dust mites that have left behind their fecal matter and body parts would you say yes? How about letting your baby crawl around on the surface of fibers that had accumulated bacteria and grime from countless sidewalks, public bathrooms, department stores and supermarket floors?

I’m guessing the answer would be an emphatic absolutely not on both counts. Well, that’s what a dirty carpet provides to your baby when you let him or her crawl, play, and roll around on top of it.

Toys? Yeah, those are going to end up in your baby’s mouth. If they’ve been lying on the carpet next to your child…well, you probably don’t want that either.

Proper Cleaning

It’s true that routine maintenance can be very effective in reducing the number of toxic and hazardous contaminants tha reside in your carpeting. Vacuuming should be done every week to reduce the amount of allergens and dirt that can collect in your carpet fibers.

But that is just one part of the equation. It’s important to have your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year, more if you have pets and children. A good professional deep clean is the only way to reach those toxins and germs that get stuck in the fibers and fall all the way down to the backing material below.

This is also the main reason why you need to have this done in advance of your newborn baby coming home for the first time. Think of it as having a clean slate, literally, in the home before your baby arrives. You don’t want any of these harmful things anywhere near your child or even in the same room. Calling in columbia carpet cleaning ahead of time ensures that your carpet is clean and, more importantly, safe for your baby to laugh and play on.

You should also do it before your baby comes home because once he or she arrives, things are going to get so hectic with taking care of your child it may slip your mind entirely.
